B'nai Mitzvah - June

Joshua Gorelick

Joshua Gorelick became a Bar Mitzvah on May 29, 2010. He is a 7th grader at Reuben Gittelman Hebrew Day School. He enjoys playing guitar and tennis, and he is our resident computer expert. He is an avid comic book reader and collector, and for his Bar Mitzvah Project, he will be holding a “comic-book-a-thon,” when he will read as many comic books as possible. He will be soliciting donations for his efforts, with all proceeds to go to two charities that are important to him. One is Livnot U’lehibanot, which provides meaningful Israel experiences to young Jewish adults. On a family trip to Israel in 2008, we had the opportunity to paint murals in a bomb shelter through one of their programs. The other charity is the Children’s Tumor Foundation. We have two family friends who are affected by neurofibromatosis, and Josh hopes to raise money to assist in research for a cure.

We are grateful to Rabbi Scheff for guiding Josh through his preparations for this special day. We also thank Rabbi Drill for helping Josh come up with a way to incorporate his love for comics with his Bar Mitzvah Project.

Josh is a fun and interesting little brother to Jaime and Tyler, and is a source of great joy and pride to his parents every day. We are so excited to celebrate this day with family, friends and the OJC.

Ethan Richter

Ethan Richter will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah on June 12, 2010. Ethan is in the 7th grade at Reuben Gittelman Hebrew Day School. His favorite sport is lacrosse and he is currently playing on the Clarkstown Patriots. Ethan has played basketball for the JCCY and baseball in the New City Little League. He enjoys learning about science and technology and was a prize winner in the 2009 Rockland County Science Fair with his Hovercraft exhibit. Ethan is excited about his upcoming Bar Mitzvah, as evident from his extensive research for a tallit and tefillin. We are so proud of his accomplishments and hope all of his dreams and wishes come true.

Jamie Moallem

Jamie is a 7th grader at Holdrum Middle School in River Vale, NJ. She loves spending time with her family and friends. Jamie’s passion is dance. She has been dancing at Robin Horneff’s Performing Arts Center since she was 5. She has been a member of the PAC Kids since the age of 6. She competes with this company throughout New Jersey and travels somewhere each summer to compete nationally. When she isn’t dancing, she can be found hanging out with friends,

For her Mitzvah Project Jamie will be collecting toys, video games, and iTunes cards to be donated to Hackensack Hospital’s pediatric unit. She wanted to help children who may be having a difficult time having to be in the hospital. She hopes these donated items can help their time there pass more quickly.

Along with her parents, Leslie and Eli, her brothers Danny and Justin and her sister Jessie, Jamie would be honored if you would join her on Sunday morning, June 13, as she becomes a Bat Mitzvah.

Jacob Brady

Our son and big brother, Jacob, will become a Bar Mitzvah on June 19th. We are so grateful for this opportunity to celebrate Jacob’s enormous accomplishments. Despite spending 2 months in the hospital after an accident, Jacob’s excitement and determination to become a Bar Mitzvah has been clear. He has looked forward to this occasion since he was a little boy. We are so proud of Jacob’s success physically and emotionally, as well as academically. Jacob worked very hard to be able to go back part time to Felix Festa Middle School, where he is in the 7th grade. We are also very proud of Jacob’s Mitzvah Project, collecting fun pillows and blankets for the patients at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, where he was a patient.

Jacob is an enthusiastic fan of professional wrestling and has great fun following this “sport.” He also enjoys playing his drums.

Jacob’s courage and humor are an inspiration to us. Thank you to everyone, especially Rabbi Drill and Rabbi Scheff, for your support and encouragement, kindness, and good wishes.
