Cantor Vadim Yucht
Cantor Vadim Yucht, born in Ukraine, was recognized at the age of five years as having an exceptional singing voice that deserved to be nurtured. So, at the age of eight, his family sent him from his small town of Nikolaev to Moscow to study music at a special boys choir school.
In 1975, Cantor Yucht acquired a BA in music and choir conducting. Continuing his education at the Moscow Academy of Music and Culture, he received a Masters Degree in 1980 and began his professional career as choir conductor and musical director at the USSR Government Community Center where he organized adult and children's vocal and instrumental groups.
Drafted into the military in 1981, Cantor Yucht became a member of the elite Red Army Chorus and served as conductor and music arranger for the choir and orchestra.
In 1991 the Yucht family made Aliya to Israel where Vadim, without knowing Hebrew, became a member of The Grand Synagogue of Jerusalem Choir. Here, for the first time in his life, he heard a Hazzan chant prayers. The sounds of its music deeply touched his soul. He suddenly realized why he was born with a gift of singing and why his mother's maiden name was Hazanovich.
Realizing his true calling, he became a student at the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute under the direction of Cantor Naftali Herstik. During the five years it took to earn the title "Hazzan", he sang with the New Israeli Opera and the prestigious Cantor's Ensemble.
The Yucht family made another big move soon after, coming to the United States. He, his wife Dina, and their two children Angelina and Greg, once again adjusted to a new culture and language. Cantor Yucht learned English and received a Master of Arts in Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in NYC. Since 1998, The Orangetown Jewish Center is fortunate to have the talents of Cantor Vadim Yucht as its official Hazzan.
The United Synagogue and the Cantor’s Assembly are pleased to inform the OJC Community that the musical submission of Cantor Vadim Yucht has been selected for inclusion in their upcoming CD, “The Spirit of Israel:II”, to be released in May 2008.
