When Does a Pair Beat a Full House???
When we introduce Bart Bookman back into the fold as our co-president! Together, we are truly greater than the sum of our parts. We are looking forward to the second half of our year with renewed aspirations to surpass the levels of activities we had hoped to reach.
Before we go forward, however, we would like to go back and recognize what a wonderful job Jay Rifkin did with our comedy night. (It was my first time performing in it and I had a BLAST!) He wrote and directed the whole thing, and Bart Bookman was the producer. We would like to mention those who put in so much time and effort to make it so wonderful. Both rabbis, our rabbinic intern, and the cantor . . . plus the rebbitzen, rebbitzman and internish rebbitzman. We had our past president, Glenn Hirsh, current president, Kim Lori Sokol, and soon-to-be President, Amy Nelson. Our quartet of Eric Goldman, Bruce Machlis, Jeff Weiss and Jonathan Lesserson, who doubled as our pianist. We had Jay’s daughter, Aimee Kaufman, Harold Koppel, Rosina Hirsh, our narrator Cindy Levine and me. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out. THANKS TO ALL!!!
Next on our agenda is our annual World Wide Wrap. Men’s Clubs all over the country will be participating in this event to wrap tefillin. It will be held on Super Bowl Sunday, February 5th at the OJC. Trainers will be available at 8:45 AM to assist you if needed . . . and, of course, a light breakfast will be served afterwards. We are asking for a $3 donation, which is payable at the door. Please RSVP to JEFFRY.HOROWITZ@THEOJC.ORG.
Save the Date!
On Sunday, March 11th we are resurrecting our Texas Hold ’em Tournament. While we definitely don’t want to “show our hand,” we can assure you that we are not “bluffing.”
We expect a “full house,” so come “straight” in . . . Come in “pairs” or bring even more friends and come in “trips.” Leave a winner and you’ll be “flush” with cash. And, even if you don’t win, we’ll have plenty of good food – that’s our “ace” in the hole. The “deal” is that your donation will go to help us support the OJC. So have a “heart,” drop your “clubs” and “spades” and bring your “diamonds” on Sunday, March 11th. Registration and table assignments will be at 11:00 AM and the tournament will start at noon. Please RSVP by February 28th, especially if you want to play with a group of your friends. The buy-in will require a $100 donation and a $20 registration fee. We will accept walk-ins on the day of the tournament but that will include an additional $30 walk-in fee, so please register early.
