Be an OJC Content Creator!

Any OJC member can create content for our website and our social media platforms by following just a few simple guidelines.
For our social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram:

  • Vertical or "portrait" video and photos work best.
  • Try to compose your content to capture the essence of the event you'd like to share with those inside and outside our congregation.
  • Always make sure you get the permission of those you are photographing.

For TheOJC.org:

  • Horizontal or "landscape" video and photos work best.
  • When shooting video, always ensure that you've selected the "4K" video option on your mobile device for the highest resolution.
  • Hold shots for a minimum of five seconds before panning, tilting or zooming in or out to capture a new image.
  • Always "reverse" your zooms, pans and tilts to give our web and platform managers the option of editing your video appropriately
  • Likewise, for still pictures, also shoot in horizontal or "landscape" orientation for anything you'd like posted to the website.

Shooting video/photos for BOTH our social and web platforms?

  • Simply shoot everything twice - ONCE in horizontal AND ONCE in vertical orientation, so the layout is optimized for ALL of our public platforms.

Creating a flyer?

  • The old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" applies.
  • Use fewer words and more graphics to communicate your information.
  • Make sure each flyer contains the title, date, time and place of the event.
  • Remember that RSVP and donation links will NOT work when the graphics in which those links are embedded are converted for use on our platforms -- so make sure you communicate those links separately to our webmaster and social media content managers (Rabbis Scheff & Hersh) so those links can be properly attached to your flyers.
  • Large, simple fonts and darker colors work best for online display.
  • We use an application called CANVA to create most of our flyers - and Rabbi Hersh and Howard Price can assist you with any content creation needs you may have.

Layout Types:

  • Please compose your flyers for both THUMBNAIL (square) and BANNER (full-page) display

    • THUMBNAIL image dimensions should be 600 x 600 pixels.

    • BANNER image dimensions should be 2000 x 1000 pixels.

How to send your material to our social media managers and webmaster?

  • Large video and photo files are best saved to a shared file application like Box, Dropbox, iCloud or Google Drive.
  • Most smartphones also allow you to create a SHARED FOLDER in which you can save photos and videos.
  • From either a shared folder or a cloud storage application, simply use the SHARE option to create a link to the files you'd like to share for wider distribution.

For anything you send to us, please use this file naming convention:

  • EVENT NAME - MMDDYY - LAYOUT TYPE
    (e.g., SISTERHOOD GAME NIGHT - !20825 - THUMBNAIL, SISTERHOOD GAME NIGHT - 120825 - BANNER)
